Addendum to News Roundup, July 12. 2020
There’s so much going on that we decided to add an addendum to our usual NEWS ROUNDUP.
URBAN-15’s Hidden Histories series is continuing this month with If Not Now, when? a special episode conceived in response to what has been going on in our country following the tragic death of George Floyd who was killed by a policeman, a death we all saw recorded on video. The episode premiered on July 6 but it will be restreamed every Monday in July at 7 p.m. It features civil rights leader and former city councilman, Mario Salas, poet/performer Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, beloved veteran musician Ron Wilkins, Black Lives Matter activist Ananda Tomas and Aaron Taylor, an “up and coming” vocalist and the stepson of former mayor Ivy Taylor. All Hidden Histories videos are archived and can be found at https://hiddenhistories.tv/season-three-archives/
To view the current, July, episode on Monday nights, go to URBAN-15’s website https://urban15.org/live-stream/ or to the organization’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/URBAN15/live
On July 14, The Boerne Public Library is hosting a Zoom program featuring one of the best-known novelists in Texas, San Antonio’s Robert Flynn, a former Trinity University professor, prolific writer and world traveler. He will talk about travel “as a way to learn about different cultures, and in doing so, learn about oneself,” says the announcement, to which we can add that the session is almost guaranteed to be fun and entertaining, too. The program is scheduled for 11 a.m.
For information on how to register for the Zoom meeting, email Caren Creech: creech@boernelibrary.org.
Over at the Woodlawn Theater, they are getting ready to “bring Broadway to your living room.” They will accomplish this via a special On Broadway! Scheduled for July 20-24, the intensive is open to ages 5 to 18 and all lessons are virtual.
Meahl’s Broadway credits include “Kiss Me Kate!” “Hello Dolly,” and the Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour. Murray was the dance captain for the national tour of “Anastasia” and was also in the cast of Paramour.
Cost is $35 for those who have previously participated/registered for a 2020 summer camp at Woodlawn; $100 for all others. To register go to: https://www.woodlawntheatreacademy.org/2020-online-summer-camps.
