The music scene seems quieter this month but there are a few concerts you may not want to miss.
From the AGARITA Group comes the announcement that “the young, award-winning Balourdet Quartet will join pianist Daniel Anastasio for an underrated masterpiece by romantic era composer Amy Beach’s lush Piano Quintet, after a performance of Haydn’s grand String Quartet in G. Major. (Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m., at the AGARITA LOFT, 724 S. Alamo #2; free parking nearby.
Texas A&M Kingsville Music Faculty Recital will include the school’s music faculty performing a variety of solo and ensemble pieces. Acclaimed, mandolinist, Chris Thile – who is also a songwriter and composer and genre-defying musical genius, will present a solo evening of music at the Tobin Jan. 23, 2026 at 8 p.m. He creates “a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic for performers,” according to press materials.
Ray Wylle Habbard who is well known from his earlier work is enjoying new popularity.
He will be at the Floore’s Country Store at 8 p.m. on Jan. 17; 14492 Old Bandera Rd., Helotes;

The visual arts are offering a lot of options. Here are a few: Texas Legacy: Hidden Gems from the SAAL+M (The San Antonio Art League & Museum). The museum “proudly presents a rare opportunity to rediscover paintings and sculptures from the museum’s permanent collection that have not been publicly exhibited in decades”. Spanning more than 12 decades of Texas art, the exhibition offers a compelling portrait of the state’s evolving creative spirit;(130 King William Street; call 210-223-1140 if needed. And speaking of SAAL+M, there’s more news; The museum has announced a Call for Entry to all Texas artists for works to be considered for its Annual Juried Exhibition opening March 30th.

SALA DIAZ announced that it has been selected as one of the 2025-2028 Core Grant Recipients
by the Ruth Foundation for the Arts. With this grant, Sala Diaz will receive a total of $150,000 over three years.
