Let’s start with music:
The Quilt: Live in Concert Returns to the San Fernando Cathedral.
Musical Bridges Around the World (MBAW) willreprise “The Quilt: live in concert” on January 11, 2026 at 7 p.m. at the historic San Fernando Cathedral Evenings series (115 Main Plaza.) Now a recurring annual event within MBAW’s Russell Hill Rogers Musical Evenings series, this powerful performance is presented as part of Dream Week San Antonio and is sponsored by HEB. (free tickets are available with registration at www.mbaw.org  or on Eventbrite. Seating is first-come-first served, but ticketholders are given priority over walk-ins.

Inspired by the award-winning documentary “The Quilt,” this special concert “transforms the cathedral into a space for reflection, remembrance and celebration. The performance features two San Antonio ensembles whose work centers on African American cultural preservation and artistic excellence. The San Antonio Gospel Heritage Choir grounds the program in sacred tradition, offering choral works that reflect faith, community and collective memory.

The concert reflects the musical trajectory of “The Quilt” the documentary produced by Musical Bridges Around the World, exploring the evolution of African-American music from the times of slavery to the present day. The film on which the concert is based will make its PBS debut the week of February 15, airing on all PBS Texas member stations.

MBAW continues its 28th season of Musical Evenings concert series with a spectacular fireworks performance featuring Scott Yoo, Bion Tsang and Yungyund Guo.  

On other music fronts: The OLMOS Ensemble will ring in the new year with Baroque Concerti
 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. The ensemble’s musicians are: Mark Teplitsky (flute); Eric Gratz (violin); Julian Schwarz (cello) and Ian Pritchard (harpsichord) (Jan. 11 at 4 p.m.; St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 315 E. Pecan St.; free; www.olmosensemble.com)

The AGARITA Quartet is presenting “Before the Downbeat: One in Four, One in Eight,” the piece written through the lenses of infertility and pregnancy loss by Katherine Pukinskis. (Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m., Agarita Loft, 724 S. Alamo St.; 78205 (free parking).

Tuesday Musical Club Founder’s Day Celebration: The club members are celebrating the 125 years history of the club with special musical performances (and special treats); Renowned pianist, James Dick will perform, as well as talented Junior TMC members. Sounds of Fred: The Bihl Haus Arts fundraiser will feature live music by the bands Abyss of Bliss,
and the Ghost Tracks, a high-energy modern rock band known for an eclectic sound that spans funk, rock and soul. (Jan. 10 at 8 p.m.)

Jump-Start Performance Co. kicks off its 41st season with its annual event featuring short works by many artists. The evening ends with the usual fire-eaters. (Jan. 10 at 8 p.m.; jump-start; River Alchemy of Creative Arts, 2600 S. Flores; www.jump-start.org)
Shine on is a tribute to Pink Floyd act with live music and video and laser projections, (Jan. 11 at 8 p.m.; at the Majestic Theater; $35 – 183.)

On the visual arts front, the news comes from The San Antonio Art League and Museum, which will present “Texas Legacy: Hidden Gems from the Collection,” a rare opportunity to rediscover paintings and sculptures from the museum’s permanent collection that have not been publicly exhibited in decades.
