Music is always alive and well in San Antonio.

Let’s start with Cinema Classics presented by YOSA, (Youth Orchestras of San Antonio). The YOSA Philharmonic will bring the magic of the movies to the concert hall in Cinema Classics, showcasing the powerful role orchestral music plays in films, including Mussorgsky’s thrilling “Night on Bald Mountain,” featured in Disney’s “Fantasia” and a number of others, such as
Vaughan Willians’ lyrical Prelude from 49th Parallel that captures the emotional heart of a wartime story. (Cinema Classics, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., HEB Performance Hall at the Tobin Center.)

Camerata San Antonio will be exploring the music of Imperial Russia in “Russian Mosaic,” featuring the music of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Sergei Taneyev and Alexander Taneyev, written just before their world was changed forever. As is usual for Camerata, each concert will be performed in both Kerrville and San Antonio. (Nov. 7 in Kerrville, 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church; Nov. 8 in San Antonio at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit and Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
at the Christ Episcopal Church.)

The Agarita ensemble always has something coming up. On Wednesday, Oct.29 you can attend
“Play That Back!” – part of the Loft Lecture Series with Daniel. That’s Daniel Anastasio, the group’s pianist and leader. He will talk about the Baroque and Classical eras of music. Michael W. Smith has been releasing new music and performing around the world for the last 35 years. During that time, he has been honored with three GRAMMY Awards and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and has sold more than 15 million albums. His Beyond-the- Far-Horizon-Tour will stop at the Tobin Center Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m.; tickets start at $48;

Grammy-winner Avery Sunshine will be at the Jo Long Theater at the Carver Center soon. The audience should expect soulful vocals and feel-good vibes as Avery brings her signature sound to San Antonio. (Nov. 8 at 8 p.m.; Carver Community cultural Center; 226 N. Hackberry, 78202)

But this is also time for the Day of the Dead River Parade in San Antonio. URBAN 15’s dancers and drummers will perform on board a river barge.; 7-11:59 p.m.; free-$36

There’s also Muerto Fest at Hemisfair, a two- day festival, free to the public on Saturday, Oct.25 and Sunday Oct.26. The fest blends traditional elements with curated mix of local art, food, live music and entertainment. The event includes a multi-stage lineup of live music, performances, dance and poetry; a large altar exhibition and more.

San Antonio College presents Macbeth by Shakespeare. The production reimagines the tragedy through the lens of Narcos-inspired world, where the pursuit of power is fueled by violence, ambition and corruption. The production asks: What is the true cost of power? (Every day through Nov. 2; at the Cellar Theater of the San Pedro Playhouse, 800 W. Ashby Pl, 78212. Tickets are $5-$15.)

Gemini Ink has something for teens. They can join the Teen Writing Circle with Daniel Ramirez which is a judgment-free space for teens, 13-19, to write, connect and share. The group meets the last Saturday of every month. Free. Adults can join the Open Writer’s Labs, free monthly workshops for poets, fiction writers and memoirists. The organization’s fall 2025 fundraiser – Celebrating Our Stories: A Night with Gemini Ink is an evening devoted to the voices, vision and vitality of San Antonio’s literary community. Included will be live performances by San Antonio Poet Laureate, Eddie Vega and voices of storytellers Dragonfly and Enedina Prater. Special guests are Cary Clack, Dr. Norma Cantu, Jenny Browne, and Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson.

Needles and Strings: Vinyl Guitar Night at the Gunter Hotel. Keystone Club at Gunter Hotel joins Guitar Wars celebration in Legacy Park with a special evening of music and flavor. From 6-8 p.m. enjoy a vinyl-only set of guitar-driven classics, spun from the Gunter’s legendary Vinyl Library.
