Life in the Time of COVID-19, Part 28

The poem we are bringing to you today is by Juan Perez, the current poet laureate of Corpus Christi. We paired it with “Tequila Mockingbird” by artist Chuck Wimmer (graphic art on canvas).

pinche covid

By Juan Perez

.i.
one day you are born
you live and drink tequila
next day you are gone

.ii.
may your drink be strong
may your saltshakers be fresh
may your death run late

.iii.
taste of tequila
bitter, yet so full of life
memories of you

.iv.
the world stopped spinning
the death toll forms a question
is this how it ends?

Comments

  1. This is a powerful Haiku sequence as I have ever read. Pinche Covid is right.

  2. Thank You, Lisha. Pinche covid indeed!
