Let’s start with music!

“VIVA la Vida”: A Celebration of Acoustic Music. The Greater San Antonio Community Bands Association presents its 5th  Annual Celebration of Live Music featuring 11 bands. For a different style of music, attend The Camerata San Antonio Recital, featuring the extraordinary pianist Viktor Valkov. In this one performance-only event, Valkov has curated a compelling program: “Shadows and Fantasies”: From the architectural brilliance of Bach and the romantic intensity of Schumann, to the whimsical “insect” sketches of Langgaard and the shimmering dream-states of Escher, this recital invites you into secret inner worlds – arcane, delicate and deeply expressive.  (April 12 at 2 p.m.; San Antonio – Christ Episcopal Church; 510 Belknap Pl, San Antonio, TX 78212; for more info check www.cameratasa.org)

Another well-known musical ensemble, AGARITA, has news. Grammy-winning composer, singer and instrumentalist, Caroline Shaw is coming to San Antonio to join AGARITA for a show at Stable Hall that features her acclaimed works. (April 4 at 7:30 p.m., at Stable Hall, 307 Pearl Parkway, 78215; free and open to all.)

At the Tobin Center you can catch jazz and R&B star Samara Joy – Live on tour. Her first album earned her a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album in addition to a headline-making win for Best New Artist. (April 4 at 8 p.m.; Tobin Center; tickets from $47.50)

YOSApalooza is an annual, high energy, end-of-season concert featuring all eleven YOSA ensembles. (YOSA stands for Youth Orchestras of San Antonio) (May 17 at the Tobin Center; get tickets in advance; the event sells out.)

And here’s something for photographers. The San Antonio River Authority has a photo contest for you! Get outside, enjoy the San Antonio River and click away! Images can be taken anywhere along the San Antonio River, in Bexar, Wilson, Karnes and Goliad Counties. Photo categories are: Creeks & Rivers; Animals (native wildlife); plants; Insects & Pollinators; Recreation. (Limit: one per category.) Deadline May 31, 2026

Luminaria’s Pop-Up Art Gallery at the Aiden is presenting “The Divine Fem” curated by Andrea  V. Rivas, Luminaria’s Fine Art Curator. Nine artists are included.  (March 20- May 8 2026; open 24/7; The Aiden San Antonio Riverwalk, 1103 E. Commerce St., 78205; free admission)

The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the Sculpture Garden at the Commons (March 28, 4-7 p.m.) The exhibit will feature seven outdoor sculptures created by members of the Texas Sculpture Group, curated by Lana Meador, curator of contemporary art at the San Antonio Museum of art. The City of Castle Hills is committed to the promotion of public art.

The Gatherings: Young Artist Edition: will feature nine San Antonio Young Artists who will showcase their art at the International Folk Culture Center on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake University. (March 25-29, times vary; International Folk Culture Center,  210-431-3922

We already told you about Otherwild at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. It’s described as “a captivating large scale immersive art experience”, featuring colorful visionary installations by artist Patrick Shearn. (Through July 7; San Antonio Botanical Garden, 555 Funston Place, 78209)

April is Poetry Month. Premiering online on April 16, the Mega Corazon Poetry Festival is acclaimed as one of San Antonio’s leading National Poetry Month celebrations. Created by URBAN-15 in collaboration with former San Antonio Poet Laureate, Carmen Tafolla, Mega Corazon brings together performances by a dozen renowned poets from throughout San Antonio and beyond. Tune in to URBAN-15 free livestream April 16.

Related: Exploring Persona Poetry with Leticia Urieta. On March 28, Urieta will be at Gemini Ink for a 4-hour, in-person deep dive into persona poetry – writing in another voice, conversing with the dead, and seeing the world through someone else’s eyes.
